Know about the Significance of GNCTD Bill
- The bill aims to amend the GNCT of Delhi Act, 1991, which establishes the framework for the Delhi Legislative Assembly's operation and renames the Delhi Government as the Lieutenant Governor (LG).
- It limits the Delhi Assembly's ability to conduct business according to its own rules of procedure. It stipulates that the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Delhi Legislative Assembly shall be consistent with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha.
- The Bill also prevents the Legislative Assembly from enacting any rule that would allow it or its Committees to consider matters of day-to-day administration in the NCT of Delhi, and (ii) conduct an investigation into administrative decisions. Furthermore, any clause in effect that has the above-mentioned effect will be null and void.
- Furthermore, the Bill stipulates that before taking any executive action on decisions made by the Delhi Government, the LG's opinion must be sought on such issues as the LG may specify.
