What is Motion?
The free movement of a body associated with time is known as motion; for example, the dust falling from the doormat, the fan, the water flowing from a tap, a moving car, a rolling ball, etc. Even the universe is in continuous motion. Are all these types of motion similar? Is the motion of a pendulum similar to that of a rolling ball or a moving car or train? Multiple types of motion are taking place around us, and they can be generally categorized based on the following parameters-- Speed
- Time
- Path
- Distance
Types of Motion
Oscillatory Motion
A continuous motion in which an object repeats the movement constantly in the same motion, such as a swing.
Rotary Motion
This is a special type of motion in which the object is in rotation around a set axis, such as a figure skater revolving on an ice rink.
Linear Motion
It is a one-dimensional motion on a straight line, such as an athlete running on a linear path.
Reciprocating Motion
it is a recurring and constant up-and-down or back-and-forth motion, such as a needle in a sewing machine.
There are also different other kinds of Motion as per the directives or as per the state of Motion.
Types of Motion as per state-
- Uniform Motion
- Non-Uniform Motion
Types of Motion as per direction-
- One Dimensional Motion
- Two Dimensional Motion
- Three Dimensional Motion
Types of Motion as per direction (Other types of Motion)
- Translational Motion
