NASA Images of Pluto
NASA posted a lengthy tweet with the multicoloured image of Pluto that began, "The rainbow's end is where? This translated colour image of Pluto was produced by New Horizons scientists to draw attention to the numerous minute colour variations between the various regions of the planet, which are not present."
Pluto's surface is complex and varied, with jumbled mountains resembling those on Europa, networks of carved-out valleys, older, deeply cratered terrain next to more recent, smooth, frozen plains, and even what appear to be wind-blown dunes, according to a NASA report.

- In February 2007, the New Horizons spacecraft swung by Jupiter for a gravity boost and scientific investigations.
- In 2015, it carried out a six-month flyby survey of Pluto and its moons, making its closest approach on July 14.
- The spacecraft is slated to move further into the enigmatic Kuiper Belt to study another of the old, ice mini-worlds, at least a billion miles beyond Neptune's orbit, as it continues its exploration of the area. Final approval is pending for the mission.
The goal of the New Horizons Mission
By examining the surface characteristics, internal composition, geology, and atmospheres of the planets near the edge of our solar system, the New Horizons space probe is assisting in providing fundamental answers.
